Line it Like a Pro with Adaptive Design
Overview
At this volunteer, hands-on workshop, you’ll help create blank tangible symbol cards — a low-tech, augmentative communication tool for children who don’t yet have formal means of communication. All cards made during the event will be donated to schools and programs using tangible symbols in their classrooms.
By volunteering your time to make blank cards, you’re giving teachers more time to do what matters most: customizing each card to meet their students’ individual communication needs.
During the workshop, you’ll:
- Learn cardboard carpentry techniques used to make durable adaptive tools
- Hear from community partners about the role of customization in inclusive education
- Connect with others who care about accessibility, creativity, and impact
We’ll be hosting volunteers throughout the day and can accommodate up to eight volunteers per hour slot.
Let’s build communication access together — one card at a time.
If you know a community group, scout troop, chessed club, or school program that would like to get involved with this project, please email Tamara@adaptivedesign.org to organize the details.
