Lindow Moss Birch Pulling
Overview
Join us for a morning of pulling up birch which has self-seeded on the bog. The reason for removing birch and other saplings from the bog is to help reduce the amount of water lost to transpiration and ensure the bog stays wet and continues to regenerate.
Pulling birch is a like a intense game of tug of war, so you'll need to have a resonable level of fitness. If you don't want to or are unable to pull birch, then you can cut it down, or help to move the cuttings into one big pile. You'll be shown how to do each task, so you can chose of the day. There is a job for everyone, regardless of ability.
The meeting point is the sleeper on Rotherwood Road.
The event starts with a briefing at 10:00am, but you can drop in / drop out during the day, as long as you let a member of the team know that you're leaving!
If you have your own loppers, cutters etc that you'd like to use, then please bring them, but a limited number of tools will be provided.
You'll need wellies and gloves, but no expirience is needed and you will be shown what to do on the day.
We would encourage anyone wishing to attend the event to come on foot where they can, as we need to be respectful of local residents. If coming from further away you can park at the Lindow Common car park which is about a 15 minute walk to the meeting point.
