Welcome to the end of the dream — or is it the beginning?
In Like Marlene, L.A. based comedienne and former German popstar Alina Bock takes
the stage as her future self: a washed-up, chain-smoking Hollywood diva with a few
dusty Oscars, a head full of memories, and just enough delusion to attempt one final
comeback.
Told in reverse, this one-hour autobiographical solo comedy shows spirals backward
through time — from a faded legend grasping for reinvention, to her days as a viral
internet star, to being a Hollywood sign tour guide, to her europop fame in Germany,
and finally her teenage self in the ‘90s who dreamt of stardom just like Marlene. Marlene
Dietrich - the ultimate German export.
With a mix of original characters, songs, digital interstitials, and audience-driven improv,
Like Marlene is a fast-paced ride through fame, failure, identity, and reinvention. It
explores the question of what it means to start over in America’s dream factory and is a
love letter to dreamers, outsiders, and anyone who's ever had to google, how to get a
green card / Hollywood agent.
Because if Marlene could do it, why not you?
