I'm new to cycling and haven't cycled on the road before, is this event suitable for me?

Accepted Answer

To keep everyone safe and happy, we ask that riders have some experience of riding on roads and with traffic. We have plenty of ride marshals on the day to keep the group together and the ride running smoothly but riders are responsible for their own decision making.

Question 2

Is this ride suitable for trikes, adapted bikes and cargo bikes?

Accepted Answer

Yes! The route has been test-ridden with adaptive bikes, trikes, and wider cycles in mind. While there are a few gates when entering parks, they are accessible and wide enough to accommodate most adaptive cycles. The maximum width clearance is 155cm.

Question 3

I don't have any bikes lights or high visibility clothing to make myself seen, how can you help?

We have a small supply of lights, high-viz vests and bags that we can offer to participants on low income [no questions asked] - just drop Anna a line to arrange pick up from Station South.

Question 4

I don't think I have enough fitness to do the whole route, can I do a bit of the ride?

Accepted Answer

Feel free to join us for as much of the ride as you wish!

Question 5

I don't live close to any of the feeder ride start points, can I just join for the main ride?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Feel free to book onto the 'Main Ride' only and we'll meet you at the start point at All Saint's Park @4pm.

Question 6

Is this ride just for adults?

Accepted Answer

We ask that anyone under 18 is accompanied by a responsible adult. This ride is not suitable for anyone under 14.

Question 7

I don't have a bike, can I still join in?

Accepted Answer

You sure can! We’ve teamed up with Cycling UK to provide bikes especially for the Lights Up event. Here is the LINK.

Question 8

I'm a confident cyclist and would like to help on the ride, can I be of use?

Accepted Answer

The more ride marshals the better! These can be any confident cyclists who feel comfortable helping to guide the group and keep everyone together. We ask that all volunteer marshals join at least one test ride beforehand. Get in touch if you’re keen! rides4womenmcr@gmail.com

I don't identify as female, can I still join in?

You sure can. This ride is open to anybody who is comfortable supporting and celebrating a female centred event.
