About this Event

Lifting the Veil: Connecting with Our Ancestors

A Samhain Celebration

This time of year reminds us of autumn leaves, pumpkin spice, trick-or-treats and impending Thanksgiving feasts. But the roots of this time of year have gotten lost amongst our fun costume parties and pumpkin carving.

While we still love all of the above, we invite you to take some time together as sisters to honor the roots of this time of year - a time to remember our ancestors and those who have left this world before us.

*Our Celebration*

Join us for an evening of remembering and celebrating our ancestors. We'll enjoy:

> a guided visualization to connect with an ancestor

> journaling & storytelling

> mini-pumpkin art as ritual

> co-creation of an altar of remembrance for our beloved dead

> songs, chants, community, and connection

$20 in advance/$25 at the door

-Sisters of the Moon Unlimited Members attend free-

Please bring a photograph or object for our altar centerpiece that reminds you of a non-living ancestor or relative. Opt to bring a dish to share, perhaps one that reminds you of loved ones gone.

Join us after the circle for food and connection with each other.

What is Samhain?

Samhain (A Gaelic word pronounced sow-win) is an earth-based Celtic holiday celebrated at the mid-point between the Fall Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It's believed that this time, the final point in the Celtic Wheel of the Year, is when the veil is thinnest between worlds. It's celebrated as a time to both honor, and connect with, our ancestors and remembered dead. We can find a glimmer of this tradition in Halloween; Christians adopted versions of this holiday through All Hallow's Eve, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day. Mexican tradition celebrates Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) to honor ancestors and celebrate the thinning of the veil. It's interesting to explore the common roots from which sprung so many celebrations across cultures.
