The Metro Health & Medical Preparedness Coalition is pleased to partner with Center for Patient Safety for this Virtual Train the Trainer Workshop. Join in on March 16 and April 6 12:00 - 3:00 for this virtual training for EMS agencies that are willing to implement or "refresh" a peer support program. This information is covered in 2 three hour trainings.

This workshop provides attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary to establish Peer Support teams at their organization using Second Victim concepts to address the increasing needs of all clinicians. The Metro Health & Medical Preparedness Coalition will augment the training. This would be no cost but additional training is involved.

The Metro Health & Medical Preparedness Coalition will cover half the tuition for 2 people from each agency in the Metro Region.

Program Objectives:

Understand how a Second Victim Clinician Peer Support program supports healthcare workforce well-being when facing challenging times.
Customize and define a plan to deploy and sustain a peer support network within your organization.

PHASE 1 OBJECTIVES

Understand basic concepts of Second Victim Program
Identify the Recovery Stages after traumatic events or during challenging times
Understand potential outcomes of second victimization: Dropping Out, Surviving, Thriving
Understand the three-tiered support model
Identify barriers to providers seeking help

PHASE 2 OBJECTIVES

Increase personal ability to have a critical conversation
Understand four key components of a supportive conversation
Describe the steps to develop a peer support program
Explain how LifeGuard can be integrated into your Patient Safety Plan

Metro Coalition will convene work groups to support implementation process, share best practices and address any barriers

Today's healthcare workforce faces many challenges, including the demands encountered during a traumatic clinical event. Individuals often have a strong emotional defenses that carry them through and let them "get the job done" without addressing the emotional aftershock or stress reaction that can impact them for months. This has been especially true in the last two years of the Pandemic.
