LEVEL UP - Cartography & Safety Experience with Whympr

As part of LEVEL UP 2 – A Freeride Girls Event organized by Marion Haerty, this Safety & Cartography session is exclusively open to new participants.

👉 Not open to riders who took part in last year’s freeride or splitboard initiations

The goal: give as many girls as possible the chance to discover freeride this year.

What’s the plan

This Safety & Cartography Workshop is led in partnership with Whympr App and the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix - You will be guided by one of their certified guides.

The objective: help you better understand mountain cartography and terrain reading using the Whympr app, and apply those skills directly in the field.

This workshop takes place 100% in the mountains, mixing:

• Theory on the move: how to read a map, analyse slopes, identify features, evaluate exposure
• Practical application: using Whympr to support your decision-making and compare digital tools with real terrain
• Field-based safety awareness: understanding risk zones, planning safe routes, navigating efficiently

You’ll learn how to:

• Read & interpret topographic maps
• Understand slope angles and exposure
• Identify safe and fun terrain
• Plan routes based on conditions
• Use Whympr for navigation & preparation
• Improve your autonomy and confidence in the mountains
  

Level required

To join the workshop, you should:

• Comfortable riding on-piste (red slopes)
• Basic experience in variable terrain
• Motivation to learn and progress

No cartography experience required — this is a beginner-friendly initiation.

What is included

• Mountain workshop guided by a certified guide from the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix
• Safety & cartography training directly on the terrain
• Access to Whympr tools during the session
• Après-ski aperitif at the shop from 5 PM — TBC

What to bring

Since the workshop takes place fully outdoors and on snow, please bring:

• Snowboard or Ski equipment :)
• Safety gear: DVA, shovel, probe, helmet
• Backpack with water & snacks
• Smartphone with the Whympr app installed
  (free version is enough)

Session times:

• 8 AM - 12 PM: Limited to 5 participants
• 01 PM - 4 PM: Limited to 5 participants
