Let’s Talk Immigration: A Practical Approach for Bridging Divides
Urban Rural Action brings Americans together across differences to address our country’s most pressing challenges. Abara, located on the U.S.–Mexico border, hosts groups from around the nation to explore the complex histories and present realities of global migration.
Together, we’re partnering to offer The ABCs of Constructive Conversation, a time-tested workshop from Urban Rural Action that equips participants with a practical communication model for exploring different perspectives and navigating disagreement. This session applies that model to one of today’s most polarizing and important topics: immigration.
At the heart of the immigration conversation are people: our neighbors. How we talk about immigration matters. Provocative and overly simplistic narratives can inspire real-life violence, as Americans increasingly know all too well. That’s why learning how to engage across differences with empathy and curiosity is more vital than ever.
This 75-minute workshop will be a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and perspectives to come together and practice having better, more constructive conversations about immigration.
Participants will:
- Deepen their understanding of different perspectives on immigration
- Learn new insights about current and proposed immigration policies
- Gain a practical tool for engaging in respectful dialogue on controversial topics
We look forward to learning together!
