Are you curious about science — or maybe unsure how it fits into your life? Maybe you’ve felt skeptical of it, left out by it, or simply disconnected. We want to hear from you.
On Thursday, August 7th, the American Physical Society is hosting a small, in-person gathering in downtown D.C. This facilitated conversation will bring together community members and scientists to reflect on trust, accountability, and how science shows up in everyday life — through healthcare, education, public systems, and personal experience.
This is part of a new pilot initiative exploring how we can better listen to public voices and build more meaningful, mutual forms of science engagement. We’re especially looking to hear from people who don’t work in science — including those who may feel skeptical, left out, or unsure where they fit in. This event is the first of its kind, and your feedback will help shape future versions. After the conversation, we’ll ask what worked, what didn’t, and how we can make it better next time.
Dinner and free parking are provided.

Frequently asked questions
Not at all. In fact, we’re especially interested in hearing from people who don’t work in science — including those who may feel uncertain, disconnected, or even skeptical. Your everyday experience is enough.
Nope! This is a small, facilitated dialogue where community members and scientists reflect together on how science intersects with trust, public systems, and daily life.
Filling out the form lets us know you’re interested. Because the group is small, we’ll follow up to confirm your spot. You’ll also receive details about the location, dinner, parking, and what to expect during the session.
