Our speaker at the event will be, Kenny Benfield, Branch Head/Program Manager for Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch, DHHS.
Kenny Benfield is the Program Manager and Head of the Forensic Tests for Alcohol (FTA) Branch within the North Carolina Division of Public Health of the Department of Health and Human Services. He has over 25 years of law enforcement experience and specializes in impaired driving enforcement and forensic toxicology. He is a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), DRE Instructor, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor, and a General Instructor. Previously, he served as the DRE/SFST/ASTD State Coordinator, where he oversaw training programs throughout the state. Kenny is dedicated to improving strategies in impaired driving enforcement and forensic alcohol testing to enhance public health and safety.
He holds Master’s degrees in Justice Administration and Crime Management, Pharmacy w/ a Major in Pharmaceutical Science, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Toxicology. He has also served as a technical expert for the ASQ/ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB). Additionally, he is involved with the Statewide Impaired Driving Task Force, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) DRE Section, the NCDMV Ignition Interlock Oversight Committee, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Ignition Interlock Program Administrators.
