Overview

Treat your plants right! You'll get to take home a lovely hardwood plant stand for either yourself or as a gift for someone else.
  • No prior woodworking experience necessary.
  • Materials and supplies will be provided for you, including a selection of hardwoods.
  • During this event, Clear Creek Makerspace will be open for event participants. Please ring the front doorbell, or come around to the back and knock on the windowed doors.

Learn how to build your own custom plant stand! I will expertly guide you as you learn how to safely use the Festool Domino and various hand sanders. You will gain practical skills in joining boards using the Festool Domino clamping, sanding, and applying your preferred finish. By the end of the workshop, you'll proudly take home a beautiful plant stand that you made yourself.

This 2.5-hour course will cover topics such as:

  • Using the Festool Domino
  • Gluing and clamping techniques
  • Edge detail using a router table
  • Sanding and finishing for a polished look

We will be taking a 30 minute meal break after glue-up. This is to give the glue some time to set before we move on to the next steps. Clear Creek Makerspace has a refrigerator and microwave that participants may use.

You will walk away with ready-to-use plant stand that you built and your plant will love!

Robert Niemeyer has a wry sense of humor (as evidenced by the photo of him created by his students). He's been woodworking since the age of six with a 33 year break before picking it back up at 39 years old. At 42 years old, Robert is now a tenured associate professor of mathematics at MSU Denver where he spends his time thinking about woodworking and what to make next. (If you're the dean of my college reading this, I am also thinking about teaching when working!) In other words, Robert really enjoys woodworking, helping others and talking about math.

Robert has made lots of small-to-medium sized pieces of furniture, ornamental pieces and plenty of cutting boards and other box-shaped objects. When he's not teaching or in the workshop building and helping, Robert can be found in either a coffee shop, trail, dog shelter or staing off into The Abyss (The Abyss has been staring off into us for just as long, it seems; he's really a nice guy! His name is Geoff.)

Robert loves to help, inspire and create with others. If you've got a problem, he's got a solution! If he's got a problem, you'll hear absolutely colorful language coming from him about it.
