Event description

Description

Matt Manfredi will lead a workshop designed to explore the use of student-centered, discussion-based education described as the Harkness method. It’s a collaborative approach to problem solving and learning. This method was created and is used daily at Phillips Exeter Academy located in Exeter, New Hampshire. Phillips Exeter has been consistently ranked as one of the top ten best prep schools in America. Workshop participants will learn strategies, protocols, tracking methods, successes and pitfalls of giving control to your students. The Harkness method focuses on having students initiate and build confidence in creativity, cooperation, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. This session will suitable for teachers looking to develop a student-centered teaching approach while emphasising the 21st century skills essential for today’s learner and educator. Participants will leave well equipped with hands-on experience in participating, leading and disrupting the Harkness method. The workshop will provide time for reflection and sharing of experiences from the group. This workshop will require some reading preparation in advance of the weekend.
