The lecture of Breakout from the Hedgerows – A Lesson in American Ingenuity, is presented by the 102nd Cavalry Regiment association – The Essex Troop.
The lecture will highlight the Allied invasion of the European Continent on 6 June 1944 and will out line the efforts of the Allies to push inland. As the Allies found the French countryside was nearly impassable, until a young sergeant from New Jersey came up with an idea.
The center of the lecture/story is the little-known involvement of American soldiers, especially those soldiers from New Jersey, that were an important part of the Allies breakout from Normandy. After years of research and combining Regimental folklore, we are able to present an interesting and patriotic story of the Boys from Jersey.
