Please join us for a Leon County Seed Library Virtual Workshop on Saturday, February 13, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. via Zoom.
The Spring 2021 Seed Library Program begins February 13, 2021!
In celebration of the opening of the Spring 2021 Seed Library Program, Leon County Extension Agents are hosting a Virtual Workshop to discuss vegetable gardening techniques, eating healthy, and food waste prevention. There will also be a live virtual cooking demonstration!
Saturday, February 13 Workshop Timeline:
- 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Agriculture and Horticulture Agents Molly Jameson and Mark Tancig will present on spring gardening and vegetables available in the Spring 2021 Leon County Seed Library Program.
- 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Amy Mullins will present on the importance of eating healthy and how to reduce food waste.
- 11:30 – 12:00 p.m. Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Heidi Copeland will do a live virtual cooking demonstration!
Leroy Collins Leon County Public Library librarians will also be at the virtual workshop to answer any questions about checking our vegetable seeds from the library.
Starting February 13, vegetable seeds will be available to "check-out" at all Leroy Collins Leon County Public Library locations. Patrons can check out three sample seed packets per month per card.
Seed varieties that will be available at the library include: Italian Large Leaf Basil, Jackson Wonder Butterbeans, A&C Pickling Cucumber, Burmese Okra, Sugar Snap Peas, Corno di Toro Sweet Bell Pepper, Butternut Waltham Squash, Black Krim Tomato, Matt's Wild Cherry Tomato, and Edisto 47 Melon.
To attend the virtual workshop, please register. Once you've registered, you will receive an email with the Zoom meeting link and password.
New to Zoom?
You can set up the Zoom App on your computer by going to the Zoom website and following these steps:
Create an account:
- Go to the Zoom website: https://zoom.us/
- In the upper right-hand corner of the webpage, click “Sign up, It’s Free.”
- Enter a valid email to be associated with the Zoom account. A confirmation email will be sent to that address with an “Activate Account” link. Follow the steps to finalize the account.
- PRO TIP: the confirmation email may take a while to be sent, so be sure to create an account well in advance of the workshop.
Download the app to a computer:
- On the Zoom website (https://zoom.us/) scroll to the very bottom of the webpage.
- In the “Downloads” column, click the “Meetings Client” link
- Under the “Zoom Client for Meetings” heading, click “Download.”
- In the computer’s “Downloads” folder, open the “zoomusInstaller.pkg” file to launch the Zoom app. Sign in using the previously created account information.
Download the app to a smartphone:
- In the App Store (for iPhones) or Google Play Apps (for Android) search
“Zoom.” The results may call it “Zoom” or “Zoom Cloud Meeting.”
- Download the app.
- Tap the Zoom icon on your device to launch the app.
- You will be given the option to “Sign In” or “Join a Meeting.”
- Selecting “Sign In” will allow you to host, schedule, and join a meeting.
- Selecting “Join a Meeting” will prompt you to enter a Meeting ID number for the meeting you are trying to join.
