Legacy Trash Clean-Up: Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve

By Potomac Riverkeeper Network

Overview

Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN) and Friends of Dyke Marsh (FoDM) to address an overlooked part of trash pollution: Legacy Trash!

While most trash pollution washes up along the shoreline, Legacy Trash is deposited into less accessible areas by rising tides. They go unaddressed and accumulate over months, even years; we say it's time to finally tackle this pollution!

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, PRKN and FoDM will be hosting two volunteer teams for this event: a Shoreline Team, who will clean more acessible areas closer to the walking trail; and a Legacy Trash Team that will wade to the end Dyke Marsh and clean previously inaccessible areas.

For these clean-ups, please bring the following:

  • Warm clothes and gloves, ideally an extra pair of shoes and socks
  • Waders or water resistant pants
  • Optional: Kayaks and canoes for the Legacy Trash Team
