Founded in 1868, the Museum holds more than 9,000 works spanning African, Native American, Asian, Oceanic, and African-American art. It remains one of the nation’s most important repositories of Black cultural memory and artistic achievement. Legacy in Color brings this extraordinary heritage to Art Basel Miami, celebrating Hamptonian artistry and raising support for the Museum’s continued preservation and growth.
The evening will include remarks from Dr. Vanessa Thaxton-Ward ’85, Director of the Hampton University Museum, who will share insights on the Museum’s rich history, its mission, and how your support safeguards this national treasure for future generations. The evening will also spotlight six Hamptonians who are showing work during Miami Art Week, Brandon Clarke ‘09, Benford Stellmacher ‘98, Phillip Shung ‘96, & Rodney “BUCK” Herring ‘95, Ronda Brown '94 & Hasaan Paige '92.Ticket
