About The Stanley-Casey House
The Stanley-Casey House in Shelbyville, Kentucky, stands as a testament to pre-Civil War architecture and a rich history. Built between 1814 and 1818 by Dr. Nuckols, this historic building is named after Kentucky Governor A.O. Stanley and prominent businessman John Casey.
Over its long lifespan, the house has served diverse purposes. From 1885 to 1901, it was Professor Scearce's Academy, a school for both boys and girls. It then became a private residence, owned by the Casey family from 1901 to 1984. In 1984, the Shelby County Historical Society took ownership, undertaking a significant restoration and using it as their headquarters.
