📚 Lecture: “We Are What We Fear: A History of Monsters in Horror”

🎤 Speaker: Prof. JR Pepper

Monsters are synonymous with horror films, representing the otherworldly, the supernatural, and the unknown. What we fear, and how those fears manifest, has evolved over time. This constant shift is vividly illustrated in horror cinema, where monsters reflect the anxieties and sympathies of each era.

Join us for an exploration of the terrifying creatures that define the horror genre and discover what they reveal about the world around us. JR Pepper will take us on a journey through the thematic evolution of monsters in film, showcasing their connection to societal fears in various historical contexts.

JR Pepper is an adjunct professor of art history at CUNY Brooklyn College, a freelance lecturer, photographer, and self-described "professional eccentric." She holds both a BA and an MA in art history, specializing in Surrealism and spirit photography. Her artwork has been featured in galleries and publications, and her recent book, Buried Boston: America's Revolutionary Necropolis, was released on Halloween 2024.

Don’t miss this captivating opportunity to explore the dark and fascinating world of horror monsters!
