📚 Lecture: “Incan Bridges, African Libraries: World's Rarest Traditions"
🎤 Speaker: BBC Journalist, Eliot Stein
Join us for a captivating lecture with Eliot Stein, a senior journalist at the BBC. He will share inspiring stories from his travels across the globe to meet extraordinary individuals dedicated to preserving some of the world’s most remarkable cultural rites that are on the verge of disappearance.
Drawing from his new book, Custodians of Wonder, Eliot will take us to rural Peru, where the last Inca bridge master risks his life annually to reconstruct a grass-woven suspension bridge, a crucial part of the Inca Road System. He’ll also introduce us to an individual in Japan dedicated to preserving the secret ingredient in a 700-year-old soy sauce recipe, as well as the unlikely heir to an 800-year-old tradition rooted in the Mali Empire.
Eliot Stein is the author of Custodians of Wonder: Ancient Customs, Profound Traditions, and the Last People Keeping Them Alive. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, WIRED, The Guardian, and many other prominent publications.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the incredible individuals keeping unique traditions alive!
