About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join Bhavani Fonseka, Attorney-at-Law and Senior Researcher at the Centre for Policy Alternatives, as she reflects on the complexities of land in the Northern and Eastern provinces, bringing critical insight into the legal, political, and historical forces that shape widespread land disputes in Sri Lanka today. Fonseka will draw on over a decade of research, including landmark reports such as ‘Land in the Northern Province’ (2011) and ‘The Intersectional Trends of Land Conflicts in Sri Lanka’ (2024). She will examine how questions of ownership, occupation, and heritage are contested through policy, institutional practices, and community claims.

This Lecture is offered as part of the museum’s Public Programmes for ‘Total Landscaping’ Rotation 3, on view and free of charge until 29 May 2025.
