Lecture: "Being a Poet Laureate"
Event Information
Description
We are honored to welcome Katherine E. Young, the inaugural poet laureate of Arlington, Virginia. She is author of several critically acclaimed books and her poems and reviews have appeared in many journals/newspapers. Ms. Young has read her poetry at the Library of Congress and other prestigious institutions across the U.S. and Europe.
Young is also an award-winning translator of Russian-language poetry and is currently one of the 2017 National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellows. Having studied Russian in college and worked in Russia as a journalist and diplomat, Ms. Young's current fellowship focuses on translating the works of Nobel Prize nominee, Akram Aylisli.
At the American Center she will share some of her beautiful poetry, discuss her translation works of poets (including Inna Kabysh, Xenia Emelyanova, Tatiana Daniliyants, and the late Vladimir Kornilov) and is looking forward to answering your questions!
