We will be walking to the Staple Bend Tunnel and learning about Leave No Trace. This is approximately 4.5 miles out and back from the parking lot with an elevation gain of 298 feet. This trail is easy, short, and beautiful with alot of history. This tunnel was the first railroad tunnel in the United States and was finished in 1883. This walk-through tunnel is 900 feet long. It is located in the village of Mineral Point and connects on each end with the Path of the Flood Trail. This hike is open to children and families. Adults must accompany all children on this hike. There are restroom facilities at beginning of trail only.

Please bring gloves along to help pick up trash. Also, bring snacks, water, and first aid kit. Bring a flashlight also. We will take a few breaks along the trail to learn about how we can protect the environment that we call Earth.
