About this event

This interactive workshop explores the intersection of school exclusion and the core principles of belonging, permanence, stability, and sustainability. We’ll begin by examining exclusion data to identify which groups of children are disproportionately affected—such as those with SEND, children in care, and those from racially minoritised backgrounds. Together, we’ll unpack the vulnerabilities that place these children at greater risk, including trauma, unmet needs, and systemic bias.

The session will then shift to practical strategies for early identification and intervention. Finally, we’ll explore how practitioners can confidently advocate with schools—challenging exclusionary practices and promoting inclusive alternatives that prioritise connection over control. Participants will leave with tools, insights, and renewed confidence to champion change for children who need it most.
