The Hilltop Learning Stories Series provides teachings on the power and meaning of using Learning Stories with young children and families.

The Hilltop Learning Stories Series returns in 2026!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Learning Stories. In this 5-Part Series led by Hilltop Children's Center educators, participants will:

*Learn about the concept of Learning Stories as a holistic and creative form of documentation in early learning

*Discuss Learning Stories' origins in the early childhood programs of Aotearoa New Zealand

*Explore the powerful impact Learning Stories can have on the well-being and development of young chilldren and their families

*Develop tools and resources for making Learning Stories an enjoyable and sustainable practice for educators.

Whether you're brand new or a veteran of the Learning Stories approach, this training series will provide fresh ideas, practical strategies, writing practice, and joyful inspiration for ECE professionals while learning in relationship with one another.

Each session will be worth 2 hours of STARS training credit for WA State Early Learning Professionals.

Can't make every session? While we encourage you to get the maximum learning benefits by attending the full 5-Part series, we understand that scheduling conflicts may come up! You can select tickets for individual sessions when you complete your registration.

All those who register will also receive a recording afterwards of the training session.

Session 1: The What & Why of Story (January 28th)

This session will provide an introduction to the Learning Stories model, as well as space for participants to reflect on what 'story' means to them/what role it serves in their personal and professional lives.

Session 2: Where Does Story Begin? - Tools for Observation (February 25th)

Participants will explore the concepts of Schemas & Working Theories in children's play and development, as well as reflective practice tools in education, and how to tie these concepts and tools into writing Learning Stories.

Session 3: Becoming the Storyteller - Creating a Learning Story (March 25th)

Participants will learn about the structure of Learning Stories and the power of photos. Participants will be invited to bring notes, photos, and other observational data from their own educational setting/program to practice writing their own Learning Story.
