Curious about Mahjong but not sure where to start? Our Beginner Mahjong Classes are the perfect introduction to this captivating game of strategy, tradition, and connection.

Led by a certified Mahjong instructor, these classes are designed to break down the basics in a fun, approachable way. You’ll learn:

• What the tiles mean and how to set up

• Rules of American Mahjong and how to read the card

• How to play a round, pick a hand, and build strategy

• Common terminology and beginner-friendly tips

• Plenty of hands-on play to build your confidence

No experience or equipment needed We will provide everything you need, including full tile sets and learning materials. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to have fun!

*A 2025 National Mah Jongg League card is also needed to play. Cards will be avail able for purchase at the class. This is a one time purchase until next April when a new cards are released. We will talk more about this in class. You can also purchase a card from nationalmahjonggleague.org.

What version of Mahjong do you teach?

We teach American Mahjong, using the official National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card and rules.

Do I need to bring anything?

We’ve got you covered with all the essentials: Mahjong sets, racks, and printed guides will be provided. A 2025 National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card is required to play. It’s a one-time purchase of $15, available at the event or online at www.nationalmahjonggleague.org.
