About this event

Other

Darning is a kind of mending used for knitwear primarily. Mending is something we can all do, saving clothes from the landfill and healing our hearts in the process. Mending is a meditative, slow process that improves with practice.

Sivia will teach several methods during this workshop that you can use right away to start darning your socks, sweaters, and other knitwear. These darning techniques can also be used for mending other garments.

Garments to practice on will be provided, but PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN ITEMS to work on if you have something at home you'd like to learn to darn.

If you have darning supplies, please bring those. They include:

  • scissors*
  • yarn* (that matches your garment or not if you'd like to do visible mending) or embroidery thread
  • a darning egg, an orange, glass bottle, or something hard to put inside your garment to use as a darning egg*
  • reading glasses, if you use them

*These supplies will also provided to the best of our ability

Note on Sliding Scale Pricing:

Repair PDX seeks to both pay equitably and keep ticket prices accessible.

Not every event we run is independently solvent. We provide sliding scale, free tickets for volunteers, and other low cost opportunities because of our values. Thus, we rely on those with more financial support to pay the higher end of the sliding scale in order to offset the low-cost tickets. Thus, you will see a variety of ticket prices for the same event and we encourage you to pay what you can.

Proceeds from tickets go directly to paying our wonderful instructors, providing materials for the class, and continuing to host events and workshops like this one!

*If you are a volunteer wanting to join the class or someone needing an accessible ticket when there are none left, please email margo@repairpdx.org so we can open one up for you.
