Event description

More Tech & Aging Summit Agenda Details:

Innovation often comes from unexpected places! And Ideas that change the future of aging are just the kind of thing that the LeadingAge Georgia, GGS, Georgia Tech Aware Home | Tools for Life, Wireless RERC, SimpleC and other members of the collaborative are looking for when we host the 2017 LeadingAge Tech & Aging Summit Atlanta. Not your typical hackathon, is focused on creating technology to address the challenges of aging.

Who should Register:

Like most hacking events, we’re looking for: Front-End & Back-End Developers.

However, unlike most hacking events, we want:

Designers Marketers Gerontologists Aging Services Professionals Business Experts Clinicians Elders/Consumers...or anyone passionate about the field of aging!

A major goal of our simulated Hackathon is to create teams of people with a variety of skills and knowledge to develop a tool (app, website, interactive online experience or a device) that addresses the challenges of aging. These tools will be judged by a panel of experts on originality, usability, feasibility, design relevance, and on being the “most developed” by the end of the HackFest session. The first place team will win prizes/gift cards.

Please apply as an individual. Our coordinators will develop teams of 4 to 6 participants. You may indicate if you want to be on a team with others from your organization or university if you’re a student.

Please read and accept the official rules and legal disclosures (included is a waiver on the registration page).

By registering for LeadingAge Georgia Tech & Aging Summit you agree that you have read, understand and agree with the following rules and hold harmless LeadingAge Georgia and HackFest collaborative partners:

The LeadingAge Georgia Tech & Aging Summit (“HackFest") is sponsored and administered by LeadingAge Georgia and Georgia Gerontology Society.

Each HackFest participant is subject to these rules (collectively, the Official Rules). By participating in the HackFest, participants agree to be bound by the official rules as well as the decision of all the judges, whose decisions are final and binding on all participants and aspects of the HackFest.

HackFest participants compete on teams. During the competition, each team is to create a new tool, along with a concept plan for their tool (together called a “Submission”). The tool can be an application, a website, an on-line application, or even a device. Each team will have the opportunity to demonstrate their Submission and provide an oral audio/visual presentation to the judges describing why their Submission would be successful.

Any coding and building for the Submission must be performed during the HackFest. Any additional requirements concerning Submission will be specified in the Official Rules or provided during the HackFest

Submission will be judged using the following criteria, applied in the sole discretion of the judges

  • Originality
  • Usability
  • Feasibility
  • Design
  • Relevance
  • Most “developed” status by the end of the session

Any Submission that, in the opinion of the sponsor or the judges, does not comply with these restrictions will be automatically disqualified and not eligible to win. Submissions may not contain any content that:

LeadingAge Georgia and judges are not responsible for any disputes among team members concerning prizes or prize components

Prizes: 1st Place Team: $25 gift card per team member. Winning Team and their partners will be featured on the LeadingAge Georgia | Georgia Institute on Aging | Center for Positive Aging Website.
