About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

We’re putting together a very special event—"Leading the Legacy: Embracing the Future"—to honor and celebrate two incredible leaders who have recently transitioned from their roles at Communities United for Police Reform: Manny Vaz and Ileana Méndez-Peñate.

This is more than just a farewell—it’s a moment to honor their deep commitment, leadership, and love for this work and our communities. In particular, we want to uplift Manny’s decade of unwavering dedication to CPR and the movement for police accountability and community safety. Their impact is immeasurable, and we want to create a space that truly reflects that.

This will also be a moment of welcome and looking ahead—as we formally introduce Ana, our new Development Director, and celebrate the new leadership of Lumumba Bandele, our Interim Executive Director. "Leading the Legacy: Embracing the Future" is about honoring the past while presenting the future—and we want to do it in community. There will also be a fundraising component during the event to help sustain and grow CPR’s vital work.

We hope you will join us for this special gathering—to honor, celebrate, and build together.

Organized by

Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) is an unprecedented campaign to end discriminatory policing practices in New York, and to build a lasting movement that promotes public safety and reduces reliance on policing. CPR runs coalitions of over 200 local, statewide and national organizations, bringing together a movement of community members, lawyers, researchers and activists to work for change. The partners in this campaign come from all 5 boroughs, from all walks of life and represent many of those most targeted by the NYPD.

Communities United for Police Reform Action Fund (CPRAF) works to end police violence and advance community safety solutions that decrease reliance on policing. CPRAF promotes public policy solutions, engages in voter education and community organizing.
