Leading From Where They Are
Building intention, connection and direction with children with severe Autism
This innovative approach engages children with severe Autism by using body-based relational techniques that foster calmer states, increased eye contact, and reduced self-stimulatory behaviors - particularly in children who have not responded to traditional behavioral interventions.
Michelle Colletti PhD, OTR/L
Michelle Colletti, PhD, OTR/L has been a practicing occupational therapist for over 30 years helping children with ADHD, ADD, autism, sensory processing disorder, and aggressive behaviors live calmer and happier lives. Dr. Colletti utilizes traditional sensory integration interventions plus a combination of cutting edge therapies of reflexology and the Therapeutic Listening Program to help calm overactive nervous systems. Her in-depth knowledge of the neurophysiology of severe autism has led her to develop what she calls Somatic Attunement to help many child and adult clients organically break out of their self-stimulatory behaviors. She has authored a chapter on autism called, “A Holistic Model and Treatment of Severe Autism” in Understanding Autism: Perspectives, Assessment, Interventions and the Journey Towards Inclusion.
