  • Through My Eyes: Living with IDD & Mental Health

*Sandi Gerdes joined LBSA in 1983 and became executive director in 1997, bringing decades of experience across client services and relationship building within the IDD community. She will be leading a conversation with a Clinical Psychologist and a former client of LBSA about her experiences.

*Isabella Armstrong has lived her life bravely, confronting the many challenges life continues to present to her. She is married and lives with her husband and her emotional support dog, Carly.

*Jane Nofer, PhD, LP, is a clinical psychologist specializing in autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. With over 40 years of experience across leading institutions, she currently practices at the Great Lakes Neurobehavioral Center in Eagan, Minnesota. Dr. Nofer is a certified trainer in ADOS and ADI-R and is dedicated to advancing understanding and support for individuals with autism.

  • Creating Optimal Healing Environments

*Martha W. Lantz, MSW, MBA, is a seasoned leader and founder of Lantz Healthcare Consulting, with deep expertise in nonprofit management, strategic program development and creating healing spaces that integrate neuroscience and architecture. She excels in building impactful community initiatives and collaborative partnerships.

  • Could a Sensory Difference be the Real Reason for that Behavior?

*Pamela Moening has a doctorate in Occupational Therapy with an emphasis in pediatrics and a capstone project focused on Universal Design for Learning. Pamela has worked as an occupational therapist since 2009 with experience in medical, community, school and private settings. In 2021, Pamela opened up Full Potential Therapy to help young children with sensory processing difficulties be able to participate in all environments. Full Potential Therapy has grown very fast in just 4 years and sees over 200 clients each week. Pamela and all 15 employees of Full Potential Therapy work together to support children and young adults in reaching their full potential so they can participate fully in their daily lives in their communities, homes and school settings. Throughout this presentation, you will learn about the sensory differences that all people have and how these can be more or less sensitive in neurodivergent individuals. She will share how to become more aware of the sensory triggers in your environment and how you can modify your setting to decrease sensory overload and behaviors. She will also share strategies that can be utilized when someone is overwhelmed and needs help to regulate. By the end of the presentation, you will be more aware of the sensory inputs in the natural environment and know how to better support your client’s ability to learn and function.
