Who are we?

Don’t Be Strangers is a podcast + community championing authenticity, vulnerability and self awareness. We fight adult loneliness and emotional disconnect 👊🏼 Our mission is to create spaces that foster deep, purposeful conversations and connection by providing thoughtful events for the curious and creative.

Lauren Xu, @laurxu_ on Insta, is an avid reader thanks to starting this book club. She barely made the cusp of being a 90s kid, despite the fact that her childhood was like a 90s lucid dream. Talk to her about community, self-care, recipe testing, being a third culture kid, and Mandopop!

Frequently asked questions

What if I dislike reading and writing?

No problem! This is a great chance to ease into it, and you can take as many breaks as you want / walk around outside if sitting too long is overwhelming. One rule: no scrolling.

Is there a restriction on genres / materials?

We welcome all genres barring hateful speech. We aim to be a safe space that embraces diversity in our attendees. Please reach out to me at ig: laurxu_ if you have specific questions.

I’m hesitant in meeting strangers, but I want to come. What should I do?

I had the same concern when I first moved to a new city after college. I can vouch for the recurring and new members when I say this is a welcoming and friendly space. If you give intentional communities like this a try, you may be surprised! — Lauren

Can I bring work to do here?

You can, as long as you are respectful of the space and the discussion.

I’m scared I won’t have much to say, what should I do

Listening is also welcomed, and sharing is not mandatory.

How many people usually come?

We have recurring members at about 12+, but we are always welcoming new ones. Usually, we see new faces every time.

What are some other events in the city?
