Launch event for the ReFlex Center
Overview
We are pleased to invite you to the official launch of the RefLex Centre for Advanced Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The Centre examines how legal systems and core legal concepts are being reshaped in a new phase of globalisation; one that unsettles established North–South hierarchies, challenges epistemic assumptions rooted in colonial legacies, and prompts renewed reflection on democracy, punishment, and justice in a global context.
Working across disciplines (including constitutional law, international criminal law, global history, political theory, and anthropology) the Centre brings together a diverse cohort of fellows for sustained, horizontal dialogue on pressing normative and institutional questions.
The launch event will feature a keynote lecture by Dipesh Chakrabarty, whose work on global modernity and the climate crisis has profoundly influenced contemporary debates on history, politics, and postcolonial thought. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the founding directors, Prof. Philipp Dann and Prof. Florian Jeßberger, and learn more about the Centre’s research agenda and fellowship programme.
We warmly welcome scholars, practitioners, and students interested in the critical intersections of law, globalisation, and postcolonial justice.
