Join us for this year’s ever-popular community lantern-making workshops and help light up Boston for Illuminate 2025: Fantastic Beasts of Boston!

In the run-up to the town’s magical lantern parade, our experienced Illuminate artistic team, led by Ruth Pigott of Curiosity Creators, will guide you through the process of making your very own illuminated creation.

The lanterns will take inspiration from the Fantastic Beasts carved into the ancient misericords of St Botolph’s Church — dragons, lions, griffins, and more. But the final shapes are still to be revealed! They’ll be based on the ideas and drawings created by Boston residents during community sketching workshops with artist Emily Cartwright, held inside the Stump earlier in October.

These free, hands-on sessions are open to all ages and abilities. Come along, get creative, and make something special to carry in this year’s Illuminate procession on Friday 28 November.

Each session lasts 2.5 hours, and all materials are provided. Places are limited and must be booked in advance via Eventbrite.

Any participants under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian during the workshops and at the parade.

Delivered by Transported, supported by Story Tellers’ (SELCP NPO) Arts Council England funding.
