Join Unbecoming Christian for a 3-day virtual writng retreat — a weekend multimedia workshop exploring lament, resistance, and hope through the lens of current events.
When:
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday | 6:00–8:00 PM (via Zoom)
In this interactive workshop, we’ll engage with the biblical genre of Lament in the Psalms. What, who, how have we lost, as we give up the story of Christianity? Who and what have they become to us? What have we turned our backs on, and what have we turned toward?
Through close reading, guided writing prompts, and group reflection, we’ll draw on their literary forms—parallelism, metaphor, repetition, and prophetic critique—to craft original work that voices grief, wrestles with injustice, and imagines renewal.
Whether you’re new to poetry or seeking to deepen your writing through a lens of womanist theology and social awareness, this intensive offers space for creativity, reflection, and meaningful dialogue.
What to Expect:
- A contemplative dive into lament and resilience in scripture
- Exploration of poetic devices as tools for expression and protest
- Generative writing exercises each session
- Workshop-style sharing and community discussion
No prior experience with poetry or theology is necessary—just bring your voice, your questions, and your desire to write truthfully.
