KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series with James Winn
Overview
On Wednesday, December 31 at 11 a.m., in collaboration with the Reno Chamber Orchestra and its annual Nevada Chamber Music Festival, pianist James Winn will present a solo recital at the University of Nevada, Reno's Harlan O. & Barbara R. Hall Recital Hall.
Dr. Winn, who recently retired from his position at the University of Nevada, Reno after serving as piano and composition professor since 1997, has chosen a program of pieces by Franz Josef Haydn, Frédéric Chopin, and César Franck, along with a surprise or two as well!
Along with his work at the University of Nevada, Reno, James Winn has been principal pianist of the Reno Chamber Orchestra and Reno Philharmonic, and a regular at the Nevada Chamber Music Festival. He has also been a solo pianist with the New York City Ballet, a member of the New York New Music Ensemble and Hexagon, and the pianist and resident composer of the Telluride Chamber Music Festival, as well as a frequent guest with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Speculum, the Group for Contemporary Music, Cactus Pear Chamber Music Festival, La Musica International Chamber Music Festival and Bargemusic. A specialist in new music, he has been involved in numerous world premieres and premiere recordings by many renowned composers, among them 13 Pulitzer Prize winners. He has been featured in more than three dozen CDs as soloist, chamber musician and composer, and has received an artist fellowship from the Nevada State Council of the Arts and the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts.
The KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series, presented quarterly, will feature a combination of music performed by some of the Truckee Meadows's finest musicians, and casual conversation both musical and personal. Inspired by the legendary, long-running public radio program Saint Paul Sunday, the Biggest Little Concert Series will be a showcase for local musicians.
The conversation for the KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series will be moderated by Chris Morrison, producer for KNCJ public radio.
All proceeds from these concerts will benefit KNCJ, Nevada Classical and Jazz. Support for these concerts has been provided by David Fenimore, former announcer at KUNR public radio and retired professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno.
