Kirtan Meditation & Community Dinner with Shanti (Beginners welcome)

By Chay Tanya Lila

Overview

Come mellow out, meditate, make music and make friends at this fun and informal mantra meditation evening

What it’s all about: Kirtan is a call and response musical meditation from the yoga tradition, considered the most potent form of meditation in this day and age. Singing these powerful transcendental sound vibrations together cleanses the heart and the mind of stress and anxiety and brings peace to the soul. This week will be hosted by Shanti and Trivi!

Come for a homemade plant-based dinner at the start of the program, made with love by our volunteer community. At 7pm, we’ll open our meditation with a guided breathing practice and a resonant mantra circle that takes you deep into a meditative space. Then, sing along with ancient healing mantras set to sweet tunes, and relax or move and dance as you feel inspired. At the end, we’ll have some time to integrate with sivasana and a sharing circle. Staying for the full container is extra powerful, but you’re welcome to arrive and leave as you need.

Beginners highly encouraged, all ages, voices and experiences welcome! All the details:

Address: Bridgespace, 133 SE Madison Street, Portland, OR 97214
Time: Tuesday November 11th, 6-9PM
How to find us: We’re across from the WonderLove food carts. The entrance isn’t always obvious from the street so look out for an A-frame on the street pointing you towards the door. If you’re running late, the door may be closed but not locked so come on in!
Parking: There is plenty of free street parking in the area.
Accessibility: Bridgespace has an ADA accessible ramp around the corner from the main entrance that is behind a garage door. If needed, please text Shanti at 808.726.5387 in advance and we will make sure it’s open. We will have floor pillows and some seating. If you aren’t comfortable sitting on the floor, please come on the earlier side to reserve a chair or couch spot.
Food: We serve out dinner between 6-7pm. If you’d like a plate, please arrive in time to be done eating by 7pm. All our food is made and offered with love by our volunteer community. We serve dinner because we want people to be able to come right after work, because it’s a wonderful way to build community and because in the kirtan tradition sharing food that’s been offered with love (called prasadam) is a purifying, meditative activity. We cook plant-based, strictly vegetarian and usually vegan. We will always have vegan options.
How to support: A $10-30 sliding scale suggested donation helps us cover the costs of the venue and food, as well as other ongoing costs, and is always deeply appreciated. If you’d like to pitch in with cooking, setup or any other aspect of the events, come find one of the organizers at the event and we’ll add you to our WhatsApp community!

Feel free to text Shanti directly at 808.726.5387 with any additional questions.
