Kinnara, a nationally renowned professional choral ensemble, will perform Joby Talbot's "Path of Miracles" at Prince of Peace at 8p on Saturday, 17 September. A talk hosted by Michael Sandifer will begin at 7p in Croghan Hall about pilgrimage and the Camino.
Directed by J.D. Burnett, the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas at Austin, Kinnara has been praised as "luxurious, lush, and verdant" (New York Classical Review), and "breathtakingly beautiful" (Atlanta Journal Constitution).
Joby Talbot's "Path of Miracles," composed in 2005, is among the most celebrated classical works of the past two decades. It depicts the path of a pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago, the famed pilgrimage routes to the Cathedral and Shrine of St. James in Compostela, Spain, which stretch many hundreds of miles and draw over 200,000 pilgrims each year. Composed for a cappella choir, the roughly one hour work showcases the diversity and grandeur of modern choral composition.
