King Manor is excited to host an afternoon with Lorna A. Rainey, author of First in the House. In this book, Rainey discusses the life of her great-grandfather,Joseph Hayne Rainey, the first Black man to serve in the US Congress.

The author will highlight key events in Joseph Hayne Rainey's life, using photos and family stories, as well as emphasizing the lasting impact of one of the longest serving Black representatives pre-1950.

She will also host an audience Q&A after her presentation.
