About the Program
Kids ages 10–14 will dive into the exciting world of robotics with LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime sets. Over the course of six weeks, students will build and program robots while exploring how engineering and coding work together to solve real-world challenges.
This academy is designed to spark curiosity and creativity while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence. No prior experience is required, perfect for beginners and curious young makers!
What Students Will Do
- Build robots from scratch using LEGO® Education sets
- Learn the basics of block-based coding in a fun, beginner-friendly way
- Experiment with motors and sensors to bring robots to life
- Collaborate in small teams to solve engaging challenges
- Create their own final project to present at the Inventors’ Showcase
6-Week Journey
Each week introduces new concepts in building and coding while encouraging hands-on exploration:
- Meet Your Robot – Get to know your set, build a base robot and learn basic programming
- Motors & Movement – Explore how robots move and navigate with precision
- Sensors in Action – Discover how robots react to their environment
- Smart Programs – Use loops and conditions for smarter behavior
- Mini-Project – Design and test a creative robot mission
- Inventors’ Showcase – Present final robots to classmates and families
What to Expect
- Small group instruction (maximum 12 students per session)
- Hands-on, project-based learning environment
- All LEGO sets, and materials for the class will be provided by MakerSpace Charlotte
- Suggested: bring your own iPad/tablet)
Instructor:
Richie Rivas Certified LEGO® Education teacher and robotics coach. With years of experience leading STEAM programs and LEGO® robotics teams.
Richie is a creative maker who loves exploring new ideas and bringing them to life. A 3D printing enthusiast and LEGO Teacher, Richie enjoys sharing the fun of building and programming through play. Richie is also passionate about virtual reality, outdoor adventures, and hiking.
Refund Policy:
14+ days before the first class: Full refund.
7–13 days before the first class: Refund minus a 50% administrative fee.
Fewer than 7 days before the first class: No refunds.
Seat transfer: If you find a replacement who pays for and takes your seat before the first class begins, you are eligible for a full refund.
