Keeping Traditions Alive (Learn How to Sew)
Come join us for a fun and informative session on the art of sewing! Whether you're a beginner or looking to brush up on your skills, this event is perfect for anyone interested in keeping traditional sewing techniques alive.
Led by experienced instructor and designer Sanaa Sharrieff, this hands-on workshop will guide you through the basics from threading a needle and using a sewing machine to making your own stitched samples. We’ll explore both machine sewing and hand stitching techniques in a welcoming, creative space.
This is more than just a technical workshop. There will also be a special talk on the cultural and historical significance of sewing within the African American community. From quilting circles to everyday mending, we’ll reflect on how stitching has served as a tool for resilience, creativity, and survival.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn a valuable skill, hear powerful stories, and connect with others who share a love for craft and community.
