Kawandi Style Quilting

Come join us for a fun and creative event where you can learn all about the beautiful art of Kawandi style quilting! This in-person workshop will teach you the traditional techniques used in this unique form of quilting. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced quilter, this event is perfect for anyone looking to explore a new craft. Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of colors, textures, and stitches as you create your very own masterpiece. Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn and connect with fellow quilting enthusiasts!

Kawandi style quilting is a technique unique to the Siddi people of India. They create quilts from the outside in, and do not piece their tops. This fun, rule-breaking technique is my very favorite way to spend time relaxing and stitching.

Kits are available for purchase, but are optional. Buying a kit? Just bring some sharp scissors.

Want to bring your own supplies? You will need:

  • Fat quarter of backing
  • 6 fat eighths of coordinating fabrics (or equivalent scraps)
  • 12" x 18" batting - thinner is better
  • Needle - I prefer a #3 Milliner's needle
  • Pins
  • Thread - I prefer 12 weight perle cotton
  • Thimble
  • Needle gripper
  • Sharp scissors

You can use any fabric, any thread, any needle you like. You do not need to use the same tools I do, these are just my favorites. However, if you use something different and become frustrated, I will encourage you to try what I like.

Bring a bagged lunch - we will break for lunch at noon.

I will have extra fabrics for sharing, as well as supplies available for purchase. Mostly I just have extras of my favorite tools. So, if you forget anything or don't get around to picking up supplies - don't worry. You can still come and have fun.
