Justice Oriented Practices and Art as Activism
Overview
Justice Oriented Practices and Art as Activism
Justice Oriented Practices and Arts as Activism is a two part virtual workshop series for teaching artists of all disciplines. Facilitators will focus on art as activism or “artivism”. Our students have continued to experience extreme societal upheaval and social injustices amidst multiple pandemics. We believe it is our job as teaching artists to help them navigate these events, their emotions, and their response to the world through art-making. Across the sessions, teaching artists across will work with Teaching Artist Project (TAP) staff to develop skills, lessons, and activities that will help support their students and bring artivism into learning spaces. Join us to expand your ability to bridge art and activism, deepen your teaching practice with experiential, inquiry and reflection processes.

About the Faciltitators
Adriana Azalia Guzmán: I am Latina, a New Yorker, a visual artist, educator, creative journey facilitator and multi cultural enthusiast.
I bring a blood infused with indigenous, afro, moorish and conquistador love, pain and resilience. I believe in humanity, in saving mother earth from ourselves and in using art as expressive meditation and collaboration.
Dale Novella Anderson-Lee: I am a Southern, college educated African-American woman who grew up middle class in the stix. I create digital and vocal music, write poems, edit audio and video and participate in the occult even though I believe Jesus is cool. I am a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
I bring questions. I bring amazement of different cultures especially those of the African Diaspora. I bring a love of hip hop and rock and their parents.
Jay Howard: I am a black, african american, creative engineer from the inner city, channeling hip hop and poetry to tell the story of the lived experience and connect communities that also reimagines our own destinies.
I bring my blackness and a core belief that everyone has a story and that memory is the key to unlocking our coherent freedom. I believe in the power of collaborative arts to both heal and understand communities and different cultures.
