Dr. Caitlin Pinciotti, an Assistant Professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and researcher specializing in the study and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Obtaining her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Northern Illinois University, Dr. Pinciotti has specialized pre-doctoral and postdoctoral training in obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs). She is a recipient of the 2024 Bicentennial Lectureship Award by the Hartford Hospital Institute of Living, honoring her innovation, advocacy, and patient-centered mental health care efforts on justice-based exposure therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Brief Description of Course: Intrusive thoughts about taboo themes are present in over 40% of individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and these thoughts can sometimes relate to identity-related themes, including a fear of being, becoming, or developing a feared identity. While exposure and response prevention (ERP) is a very effective cognitive behavioral treatment for individuals with OCD, additional sensitivity is needed when applying ERP to identity-related OCD themes that involve identities or communities. Justice-based ERP acknowledges the broader impact of our work as clinicians to ensure that all clients, providers, and persons in society are considered and respected. This lecture will introduce justice-based ERP and discuss applications to various identity-related OCD themes.

Psychology CE: Free Psychology CE available for MSHS and co-affiliated eligible NYCHHC Staff Only. MSHS staff must register with their Sinai email to receive CE credit. MSHS and paying attendees will receive the CE Attestation form via email from the Just Talks coordinators in approx. 1 week following the lecture. This lecture is offered for 1.0 CE credits. Please note that while the Just Talks Lecture Series is free to attend, there is a $30 fee for non-Mount Sinai affiliated Psychologists who wish to obtain CE credit for their attendance. You must select the External Psychology CE registration option.
