Join Celebrity Pastry Chef Dawn of Ravy Cakes, LLC a competitor on Food Networks Wedding Cake Championship for a hands-on buttercream piping class! Perfect for beginners or for those who need a buttercream piping refresher.
This workshop will guide you through the essential techniques to create stunning buttercream design patterns. Chef Dawn will show the participants how to pipe intricate designs such as textured buttercream designs while using a delicious stable buttercream.
Chef Dawn will demonstrate how to create the buttercream, how to create buttercream ombre designs, how to handle piping bags & various piping tips and build confidence with classic and modern styles such as buttercream ruffles & rosettes.
By the end of the session, you'll have your own beautifully decorated cakes and the skills to wow at any celebration.
After practicing the buttercream piping techniques, the participants will decorate two mini crumb coated cakes to apply both designs. Each participant will take two mini cakes home to enjoy.
Chef Dawn looks forward to working with you to assist you with elevating your buttercream piping skills.
All items and tools needed to decorate the cakes will be provided for use during the class only. This is a great class for beginners or if you need a refresher.
Students may bring their own apron. Cake boxes will be provided for the participants to take their cakes home.

Meet Your Instructor:
Dawn Alston of Ravy Cakes, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, grew up in Northern Virginia where she started baking at the age of six. Dawn holds an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and has competed in many local baking events and in 2018 she competed on Food Network’s Wedding Cake Championship. All The Details:
- Age Level: 13+
- Skill Level: Beginner
- You may want to bring an apron as this class can be a little messy
- All supplies and tools are provided for use during the workshop
- This workshop requires a minimum of 4 students and there is a maxiumum of 12. In the event of insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund.
- The workshop will run approximately 2.5 hours. Please note that the workshop is hands-on and may run over or under schedule.
Cancellation Policy:
Changes and cancellations...we know life happens so we try our best to be flexible while being fair to our instructors who purchase supplies and bake for each student. Full refunds or credits are available for cancellations made at least 5 days prior to the class. If you need to cancel after 5 days but at least 48 hours in advance, we can offer you a credit for a future class. We cannot offer any credits for cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled class.
