About this event

Created and performed by veteran performance artist Tom Truss, Just Add Water is a high-octane, heart-forward fusion of dance and theatrical improvisation where you, the audience, help shape what unfolds. Each evening the audience stirs the collective cosmic chaos by tossing in prompts, elements, and ideas, to create a concoction of movement, character, and storytelling. There are no scripts, no sets, no safety nets, just fearless, live performance where hilarity meets heart. And rest assured: while your ideas take the spotlight, you won’t be dragged onstage. At its core, Just Add Water is about connection, about what happens when artists and audiences co-create something ephemeral, outrageous, and deeply human.  Come make the mélange.

About the Artist
Tom Truss is a dancer, actor, and educator who has worked at the intersection of movement, story, and community for 35 years. With a background that spans professional touring dance companies, devised theatre, and somatic practices, Tom’s work centers collaboration, authenticity, and transformation. He has created over 150 original works, performed internationally, and led workshops around the states for everyone from immigrants to people with brain-injuries to LGBTQIA+ teens. Locally, Truss has worn many hats: as a community artist with Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival; faculty member at Berkshire Pulse and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts; choreographer for Monument Mountain High School musicals; ringleader of raucous sing-alongs as Tipsy MacBoozle at The Foundry; director of multiple productions at both Siena College and MCLA; as well as being a cashier at the Berkshire Food Co-op. Truss holds an MFA in Choreography from the University of Iowa, an MFA in Acting from the University of Texas, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the College of Wooster. Truss has received numerous awards for his creations and performing, and is certified in both the Alexander Technique and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Whether directing a multi-generational cast of 100 at the Kennedy Center or coaxing magic from a single prompt, he brings a singular mix of play, presence, and precision to everything he touches.

Built in 1994 as a glass blowing studio, the building’s name references its roots. Now the venue produces theater, music, comedy, spoken word, educational workshops and more, providing a safe place to create dangerous work. Work that counteracts the passive, the isolating, the distance between people. Come experience joyful creation, partake in brave exploration, meet the person sitting next to you, share about what you’re seeing, buy them a drink. Our goal is to present relevant performing and visual art that is accessible for diverse audiences; art that connects and inspires us, and incites us to leap across cultural boundaries. The Foundry is a holding tank for raw, funny, challenging, empowering work that changes the lens through which we view each other.
