Junior Loon Biologist
Get ready to dive into the world of loons as a Junior Loon Biologist! This program brings youth into the day in the life of a biologist, including hands-on activities, educational sessions, and a chance to observe loons in their natural habitat. Each participant recieves a Junior Loon Biologist Field Journal and sticker!
This program is uniquely focused on kids ages 7-12. The drop off and pick up location is at the Day Use Area of the Cross Lake Recreation Area, where one of our staff members will be waiting to meet you and walk over to the National Loon Center's pontoon, The StewardShip. Drop-off is at 8:30am and pick-up is at 10:00am.
*A parent is welcome to join if desired, but is not required. Space is limited on the NLC boat, if parent is accompanying, they must register along with child. Kids will be walked to and from the boat dock by National Loon Center staff.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, we provide both binoculars and life jackets. Children ten and under are required to wear a life jacket. The National Loon Center will provide various sizes of youth life jackets, but you are welcome to bring your own.
We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, a hat, and any other personal items needed. Dress for the outdoors and to be on the pontoon for at least 1hour. Please have an email copy of your reservation available, if needed. Staff will check in participants by the name included on the reservation.
Programs are canceled in the event of inclement weather, including rain or high wind. National Loon Center staff will monitor weather conditions and notify participants at least 24 hours in advance of weather cancellations. If your tour is canceled, please check the calendar for other open tours!
