In honor of Juneteenth, the Museum of Graffiti plans to unveil a powerful new mural at the corner of NW 25th St. and NW 3rd Ave, on The Art of Hip Hop Building in Miami’s iconic Wynwood Arts District. Created by celebrated local African American artists 1DER and his fine art mentor Mwanel “1-L” Pierre-Louis, the mural offers a vibrant and moving interpretation of freedom through the lens of music—a universal language of resistance, resilience, and liberation.
The mural is the latest in a series of public art initiatives by the Museum aimed at uplifting diverse voices and stories through the lens of graffiti and street art. To commemorate the occasion, the Museum will host a public artist talk at 5PM on Juneteenth, moderated by Museum of Graffiti co-founder and curator Alan Ket, giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look into the collaboration and the cultural inspirations behind the mural.
Following the unveiling and talk, a celebratory reception will be held from 6PM to 8PM at the neighboring hotspot KYU, one of Wynwood’s premier restaurants, where guests can enjoy drink specials crafted exclusively for the evening.
“This mural isn’t just art—it’s a celebration of freedom, expression, and legacy,” said Alan Ket. “We’re honored to partner with 1der and Mwanel to share this visual narrative with our community, and deeply grateful to our neighbors at KYU for parting with us to recognize the importance of supporting artists and cultural storytellers.”
