About this event

SIDE DOOR COVID POLICY:

PROOF OF COVID-19 VACCINATION OR A NEGATIVE PCR TEST TAKEN WITHIN 72 HOURS ARE REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.

With the health and safety of our guests, staff, and musicians as our number one concern, we are requiring proof of vaccine for all guests who attend a show at The Side Door. Our club is a very intimate 65-seat venue which makes close contact unavoidable. Masks are also highly recommended to be worn and can be briefly removed when eating or drinking.

If you are unable to be vaccinated, you must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 antigen test (also known as “rapid test) taken within 6 hours of the performance time, or a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance start time. When purchasing tickets, you agree to communicate these terms to any guests for whom you are also purchasing tickets.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these tough times with the overarching mission of keeping the music alive!

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Vocalist and visual artist JUNE BISANTZ has co-written and produced several collections of original vocal jazz, all of which have received national recognition.

She has toured internationally, and performed and recorded with distinguished jazz musicians including Steve Swallow, Bob Moses, Paul Brown, Lew Soloff, Jerry Neiwood, Mike Stern, Steve Davis & Will Lee. Reviews and articles about her work have appeared in publications including People Magazine, USA Today, Downbeat, JazzQuad.Ru, Jazziz Magazine, Jazz Podium Magazine, Jazz USA, the New York Times, New York Newsday & the Boston Globe. Her work has been released on the Pausa and Nova labels, Los Angeles, Alpha Records, Japan and Track Records, NYC. She has also self-produced and released several collections of vocal jazz.

Following a two-volume tribute to the vocal work of the legendary Chet Baker (Let's Fall in Love and It's Always You), Bisantz recently released Love’s Tango, co-written with pianist & composer Alex Nakhimovsky. This project signaled her return to original music with a collection of Latin inspired songs about love in its many forms. Love'sTango received extensive airplay as well as a Global Music Award for lyrics and songwriting in 2019.

Ms. Bisantz is Professor Emeritus of Art & Design at Eastern Connecticut State University and has exhibited her visual art work in galleries, museums and public spaces throughout the United States. She designs and produces publicity and album artwork for her own projects and those of many other musicians.

Pianist ALEX NAKHIMOVSKY enjoys a versatile career as a performer, recording artist, producer, composer and educator. His musical accomplishments as a jazz and classical artist include musical direction, arranging, solo and ensemble performances.

He has toured throughout the United States, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Bulgaria and Israel, performing with jazz legends Benny Golson, Jackie McLean, Jimmy Cobb, Valery Ponomarev, Sheila Jordan, Curtis Fuller, Victor Bailey and Grammy-nominated artists Bill Evans, Carla Cook, Jazzmeia Horn & Rene Marie. His performance as soloist with award winning Joe Hisaishi’s New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo was recorded and released on the Universal label as American In Paris in 2005. Later that year, Nakhimovsky toured with the Orchestra, performing in Japan’s major concert halls.

As co-producer of Russia’s Baikal Waves International Jazz Festival since 2006, Alex has made cross-cultural connections for several Russian Music Festivals, bringing important international artists such as Tania Maria, Richard Bona, Mike Stern, Jeff Tain Watts & Jeff Lorber to Russia. He is currently co-founder and artistic director of the Manchester Jazz Festival in CT.
