This two-hour virtual, introductory grant writing workshop’s participants will gain an understanding of the mindset of foundations, learn the basics of preparing a proposal, and develop the knowledge required to write winning grant proposals for nonprofits. The focus will be on grant proposals for submission to public, private, and corporate foundations. The workshop isn’t specific to funding films. The workshop will begin with an overview of institutional funding in America, learn what grant makers look for in a proposal, how they approach the review process, plus the role of letters of inquiry (LOIs) and proposal writing as a portion of overall nonprofit fundraising efforts.

The majority of the workshop will be spent looking at examples of and discussing each section of a proposal to understand the essential elements (2-5) of a proposal narrative and learn what elements make a strong case for support.

JULIANA FIELD: With donkey’s years of fundraising and grant writing experience for varied types of nonprofit organizations, Juliana Field is currently the grant writer at Cradles to Crayons in Newton, MA, and serves on the FC Board. She has secured funds from local and national foundations, including The Ford Foundation, The MacArthur Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. For the past ten years, Juliana also has been a guest lecturer at Lasell University where she has taught graduate-level proposal writing and the introduction to fundraising course. She earned her undergraduate degree in Anthropology with a concentration on Visual (Film) Anthropology and an MA in Renaissance Art History. She has traveled extensively, living in Florence, Italy and London England, along with many places in America. Juliana currently lives in Ashland, MA with her husband who is a former chef and two cats. Her quarantine hobbies included researching and compiling a family history book for her daughter and planting a peace garden (“for the birds”).
