Julia Parris ~ Creativity in Times of Uncertainty
Overview
How do we navigate seasons of uninvited change, and how might creativity help us find our way through them? Often, it’s the small choices and quiet acts of making that guide us forward, connecting heart and mind when everything else feels uncertain.
Join us as Julia Parris takes us on an intimate visual journey through her creative process and the making of her self-published magazine, Analog is Heavy, The Resilience Issue. Through personal stories and imagery, Julia shares how this four-year project became both a personal exploration and a collective celebration of transformation, amplifying the voices and creative resilience of her community.
Expect an evening of reflection, storytelling, and inspiration, a reminder that creativity is not just what we make, but how we move through the moments that shape us.
About the speaker
Julia Parris is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist and creative director, working across photography, multi-media, design and storytelling in all its forms. For over 17 years, her practice has moved between the worlds of advertising and editorial. As the founder of Analog is Heavy, a New York, based concept-to-capture creative studio, she builds dynamic cross-disciplinary teams to concept and create campaigns that are culturally resonant and vibrant.
A passionate educator, Julia serves as adjunct faculty at the School of Visual Arts, where she teaches Art Direction and Photography in the BFA design and advertising department. She frequently speaks to students and creative teams across the country about entrepreneurship, creative leadership, and the power of personal projects.
Beyond client work, Julia’s personal art practice explores themes of environmental trauma and transformation and has been exhibited internationally. She is an advocate for accessible creativity, leading community workshops that use cut-paper collage as a tool for liberated making, inviting
participants of all ages and backgrounds into the creative process.
Julia previously served on the Board of Directors at AIGA NY (2018–2020) and taught art as a volunteer with underserved youth at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) from 2015–2017. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Able, and their dog, Wiley.
